Nature and culture go together – Celebrations of this year’s European Green Belt Days in Albania and Montenegro
The cross-border areas along the European Green Belt are special: Over a long period of time there was low human activity, providing nature the opportunity to unfold its values. These areas have turned into a green stage to celebrate the European Green Belt Days (each year between 18-24 September).
For this special event, the organisation Protection and Preservation of Natural Environment in Albania (PPNEA) in cooperation with the Dr. The Martin Schneider Jacoby Association (MSJA) and the Well Point organization visited one of the most important wetlands along the Adriatic coast: The Ulcinj Salina Nature Park. Here, experts together with students from this area took the opportunity to conduct monitoring of different species of birds.
The celebration of the day continued with the unification of all organizations in the fair held in Shirokë. This activity, supported by the Municipality of Shkodra, which aims to promote the cultural and natural values through local products, photographs of wildlife or traditional clothing of the area, where cross-border cooperation was emphasized as a necessity for nature conservation and also for ensuring a sustainable development.
