All good things come in threes! Projects from the 3rd BESTbelt Call for Proposals are kicking off!
The 3rd Call for Proposals received an incredibly high number of a total of 96 Concept Note applications. 38 of these were then invited to develop a Full Concept in the second stage of the call. In the end, 21 Full Proposals were selected for funding. Some of the 21 new projects already started last month in October!
What an amazing number! Almost 100 organizations submitted ideas and proposals for projects along the European Green Belt. Of these, 21 project proposals have won the race to receive funding through the EU-funded BESTbelt project. The high number of submissions reflects both the high interest and the need for funding to protect unique landscapes and habitats along Europe’s longest ecological network.
Building on the successes of the first two rounds of BESTbelt, the projects in the 3rd Call for Proposals address topics like mitigating the negative impacts of mass tourism on nature, empowering rural women, involving local communities in protected area management and protecting native fruit varieties, to pick up some of the topics. Seven of them specifically address transboundary collaboration to protect valuable nature that different countries share along their joint borders.
BESTbelt - more power for the European Green Belt is an EU-funded project that started in 2021 and will finish end of 2026. In total, 49 projects will be funded through the project in all four regions of the European Green Belt. BESTbelt seeks to strengthen local stakeholders to act for nature conservation and to develop models for sustainable regional development, also beyond the duration of BESTbelt.
The BESTbelt Project Team is very excited to accompany the implementation of so many new projects! If you look forward like us to learn about the projects in detail, stay tuned! The projects will be presented on the BESTbelt website soon!
