Tournament for schoolchildren about the European Green Belt

The Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation is partnering with The Caringers to tour 7 cities around the European Green Belt, teaching local schoolchildren about natural beauty and testing their knowledge through a specially designed digital cooperative game.

The Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation and The Caringers are hosting a tournament across seven Bulgarian cities—Montana, Pernik, Kyustendil, Petrich, Smolyan, Haskovo, and Burgas—with around 350 schoolchildren. Each city’s event includes 10-12 teams of four.

The tournament presents the European Green Belt Initiative in an engaging way, sharing the story of Petar Vanev’s journey along the newly conceptualized Balkan Green Belt Hiking Trail. Schoolchildren receive interactive materials (handbooks, comics, and presentations) about protected areas, local wildlife, and interesting touristic sights. They then test their knowledge in a digital cooperative game created by The Caringers.

The participating schoolchildren are encouraged to become “Protectors of the European Green Belt” by adopting eco-friendly habits. Two tournaments have already taken place, receiving highly positive feedback. As a reward, children receive a comic book and other souvenirs—along with a deeper understanding of the importance of the European Green Belt.

The tournament has been funded by Aha Play with the support of The Caringers.
