World Wetland Day 2025: Walk in the Ramsar site along the Mur river

On this year's World Wetlands Day, 2 February 2025, a partnership of local and European stakeholders is organising a walk along the River Mur, a Ramsar site. Join the walk, show your commitment to the protection of important wetlands and enjoy the beautiful nature of the region!

Nearly 90% of the world’s wetlands have been degraded since the 1700s, and we are losing wetlands three times faster than forests. Yet, wetlands are critically important ecosystems that contribute to biodiversity, climate mitigation and adaptation, freshwater availability, world economies and more. Therefore, World Wetlands Day is celebrated each year on 2 February to raise awareness about wetlands.

There are also many wetlands of local and European importance along the European Green Belt, that deserve more awareness and long-lasting protection.

Join local guides on a 12km walk along the River Mur in Mursko Središće, Croatia on Sunday 2 February 2025 and explore the European Green Belt!
